How to actually keep a language streak
May 28, 2026 · 3 min read
Streaks work because they turn a vague goal ('learn Spanish') into a concrete daily yes-or-no. But they're fragile: one missed day can undo months of momentum if you let it.
Trick one: make the bar absurdly low. Yap's goal is 30 seconds of talking — small enough that a bad day still counts.
Trick two: attach it to something you already do. Right after your morning coffee, on the walk to the bus, while the kettle boils. Habits stack onto existing habits.
Trick three: forgive yourself fast. Miss a day? Don't 'start over' in your head. Just yap today. The streak is a tool, not a judge.
